Leicestershire is gearing up for Storm Eowyn, bringing strong winds and heavy rain. Stay safe and secure your outdoor items!
Meteorologists are warning that gusts could reach up to 90mph in some areas. That’s no joke! Tomorrow, Friday, January 23, is when things will really kick off.
Today, the weather is already changing, with heavy rain and strong winds starting to roll in. The Met Office says this is all due to a powerful jet stream pushing low pressure our way.
For now, the warnings are mainly for the western and southern coasts, but tomorrow, Leicestershire will be under a yellow warning for wind. So, if you have any loose items outside, it’s a good idea to secure them.
Mike Silverstone from the Met Office mentioned that we should expect widespread disruption. Storm Eowyn will cross Northern Ireland early Friday and then move northeast across Scotland.
Motorists in the North West, North East, and Yorkshire should be extra cautious. High-sided vehicles and motorbikes are at risk of being blown over.
In Leicester, the heaviest rain is expected between 3am and 7am on Friday, with winds hitting around 55mph. After that, it should clear up a bit, but it’ll still be windy.
Looking ahead, Saturday will be colder but calmer, with winds dropping below 10mph. However, more rain is on the way for Sunday through Wednesday, so keep an eye on the forecast!
