Leeds: A pub called The Cock Beck is in hot water after a woman was hit by a car in its parking lot. The council is now demanding some big changes before it can reopen.

They want the pub to hire door staff, which the operators say they just can’t afford. The place lost its license last month due to some serious incidents, including that attempted murder case.

It all went down on December 7 when a guy drove a Toyota RAV4 at a crowd outside the pub. A woman in her 50s ended up in the hospital with serious injuries.

During a licensing hearing, it was revealed that this wasn’t the only trouble the pub has seen. There were two other violent incidents just weeks before, with weapons like baseball bats and knives involved.

PC Neil Haywood, the licensing officer, made it clear that the pub operators weren’t necessarily to blame for everything. But still, there have been complaints about noise and drug use linked to the place.

Environmental health officer Gary Mann pointed out that it seems like a spot where people tend to drink too much. The police suggested new rules, like cutting back on opening hours and having door staff on weekends.

Bob Thompson, who represents the pub, argued that these conditions would make it impossible for them to stay in business. He did mention they’re planning to improve things, like better CCTV and staff training.

After some back and forth, the council decided on a new closing time of 11pm and insisted on having trained door staff during busy times. They also set rules about outdoor drinking and kids being on the premises.
