Families gather for support at Hull vigil amid ongoing funeral scandal investigation
Hull: A vigil for families affected by the Legacy funeral scandal is happening soon. It’s set for Thursday, February 6, from 6pm to 7pm at St Nicholas Church on Hessle Road.
Organizer Karen Dry shared that the vigil will be quiet and respectful. There will be flowers, candles, and prayers. Everyone is welcome to join and show support.
This vigil follows a major investigation by Humberside Police. They submitted over 13,000 pieces of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service after concerns about the care of the deceased were raised.
Police removed ashes and 35 bodies from the funeral home. They have identified 163 families connected to the ashes.
Karen, who lost her parents to Legacy, said the vigil is a chance to connect. People often chat and find strength in each other during these gatherings.
She noted that many are still reaching out for support. The vigils help raise awareness and provide a space for healing.
As the investigation continues, Karen emphasized the importance of moving forward. She mentioned it’s been tough for many families involved.
Currently, a 46-year-old man is on bail after being arrested for several offenses. A 54-year-old woman is also on bail for money laundering charges.
Assistant Chief Constable Thom McLoughlin confirmed that the investigation is thorough. They are committed to keeping affected families informed as the case progresses.
