A planning application for a new warehouse in Melksham aims to support local business growth and improve distribution efficiency
Melksham: So, there’s a plan in the works for a big warehouse just outside town. Gompels Healthcare is looking to build it if the council gives the green light.
They’ve been around for over 50 years and say they’re really cramped for space. The new warehouse would have office space and parking, which they desperately need.
Gompels is a family-run wholesaler that supplies care homes and nurseries with all sorts of everyday products. They started small but have grown a ton, now turning over £150 million and employing over 130 locals.
They mentioned that the pandemic sped up their growth, and they’re doing great work, but they need more room to keep up with their customers.
The proposed site is just south of the A365, near Turnpike Garage. If everything goes through, this new spot would help them store and distribute more efficiently.
Plus, it would free up their current site, which is a win-win. They’ve been searching for a suitable location for five years, and this is the only one that fits their needs.
Gompels claims they’re a clean and quiet operation, using electric forklifts and keeping deliveries mostly during the day. They say the noise at the new site would actually be less than where they are now.
We should hear back from Wiltshire Council by the end of March about whether this plan gets the thumbs up.
