Feeling down this Blue Monday? Discover expert tips to revamp your job search and land that dream job in 2025!
London: Welcome to Blue Monday, folks! Today’s supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. Isn’t that just delightful?
We’re all back at work after the holidays, the weather’s dreary, and those credit card bills are rolling in. Plus, we won’t see our paychecks for another couple of weeks. It’s no wonder we’re feeling a bit down!
But instead of wallowing in misery, why not take charge and do something about it? Let’s chat about job hunting. Today might just be the perfect day to kickstart a change.
Every January, I get asked to write about “New Year, New Job.” It’s a popular theme, right?
If your job is dragging you down, maybe it’s time to consider a change.
Every year, I find myself sharing the same key tips:
- Revamp your CV for the big recruitment push that happens after the New Year.
- Research the companies you’re applying to.
- Customize your CV for each job and company.
- Prepare for potential interview questions.
As the founder of a top CV consultancy, there’s an expectation for me to promote my services. We do offer CV writing and interview coaching, after all.
But I want to switch things up! For my Daily Star readers, let’s talk about tech readiness. What does that mean?
Technology is crucial in today’s job market.
It’s all about your online presence. Social media can be a game-changer when it comes to landing your dream job. But if you don’t manage it well, it can backfire.
Smart job seekers know that having a solid LinkedIn profile is essential. Some of my contacts say they only use LinkedIn to find top talent now. But that’s not enough anymore.
You need to be active across all your online platforms. Remember, anything you can find about yourself online, potential employers can too. It reflects your personality and how well you might fit into their company.
If you’re serious about finding a new job this year, make sure your online presence is professional and puts you in the best light.
Also, be proactive! Build your network by following recruiters and companies on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn. Join groups with like-minded folks and engage with interesting content.
Take charge of your job search with these tips!
Being tech-ready isn’t just about your online presence. Most companies now use Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) to handle the flood of applications.
Your CV needs to be “tech ready” to get past these systems and land on the hiring manager’s desk. That’s why tailoring it for each job is so important.
These ATS look for keywords from the job description. Your CV must include these keywords to stand out.
And don’t just list skills; they need to be woven into your CV contextually.
If finding a new job is on your New Year’s resolution list, being tech-ready has never been more crucial. So, let’s get to work!
