Lancashire: Ofsted recently checked out Staghills Nursery School and found that the kids arrive “full of smiles.” How great is that? The report highlights the fantastic work happening at this nursery in Newchurch.

Last inspected in December 2019, the school was rated ‘outstanding.’ Even though the inspection rules have changed, the latest report shows that Staghills is still keeping up those high standards.

During the December visit, inspectors Victoria Burnside and Nicky Corfield noted that the kids dive into learning activities with enthusiasm. The staff do a great job helping them explore both indoors and outdoors, making sure they grow into independent learners.

The inspectors were impressed with the staff, calling them strong role models who really engage the kids in conversation. They also pointed out that the school has been proactive in updating its curriculum and that the staff have received top-notch training.

There have been some changes at the nursery, especially with Andrea Cooper stepping in as the Executive Headteacher for both Staghills and Bacup Nursery School. She started supporting Staghills in 2023 and has been working on a collaborative approach that’s been really beneficial.

Mrs. Cooper expressed her delight at the positive feedback from parents, thanking them for their support. She’s also focused on improving attendance, making sure parents understand how important it is for their kids’ learning.

She believes it’s crucial for the nursery to prepare children for their next educational steps, ensuring they have a solid foundation before starting primary school. The governors have been very supportive of the changes made, which is great to see.

Currently, the nursery has 93 children enrolled, with more spots available for little ones from birth to four years old.
