A Lanarkshire dog named Lottie became paralysed overnight after a fun day at the beach
Lanarkshire: A man named Mark Walsh is sharing a heartbreaking story about his dog, Lottie. Just a day after running around happily on the beach, she suddenly became paralysed.
Mark noticed something was off when Lottie, his three-year-old French Bulldog, started having trouble walking. It was shocking because she seemed perfectly fine just hours before.
After a visit to the vet, they discovered Lottie had Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD), a condition that affects many French Bulldogs. It happens when the discs in a dog’s spine become brittle and can slip out of place.
Mark recalled, “On Friday, she was fine, but by Saturday morning, she couldn’t move her back legs at all.” It was a tough moment for him, and he rushed her to the vet for help.
Fortunately, Lottie isn’t in pain, but she needs to stay in a crate all day, and Mark has to assist her with going to the bathroom. He’s been taking her to the vet weekly, hoping for improvement.
Mark is facing some tough choices for Lottie’s treatment. He’s spending nearly £80 every two weeks on medication, which she’ll need for life. Alternatively, surgery could cost up to £7,000.
To help with the expenses, he started a fundraiser and has already raised about £700. He’s hopeful that with crate rest, Lottie might regain some mobility.
Mark mentioned, “The vet said some dogs can walk again, but it often comes back. Surgery might reduce the chances of it recurring, but it’s a big decision.”
He also shared that he doesn’t have pet insurance, which would have been quite expensive. It’s a tough situation, and he’s just trying to do what’s best for Lottie.
Mark is also planning to do some fundraising on his own to help cover the costs. If you want to support Lottie, you can donate to her fundraiser online.
