The Labour front bench is urging Sadiq Khan to hold back on his Trump criticism, seeking a more diplomatic approach.
London: So, Sadiq Khan has been told by the Labour Government to keep quiet about his comments on Trump. They think a little silence would do him good, especially after he called Trump a fascist.
This all comes as Trump is back in the White House, and Khan’s warnings about rising fascism have stirred some controversy. He pointed fingers at Trump and other right-wing groups in Europe, saying they’re just out to divide people.
Now, Keir Starmer’s team is trying to smooth things over with Trump. It’s a bit awkward since some Labour folks have been pretty vocal against him in the past. There was even a fuss about Labour activists supporting Kamala Harris instead of Trump.
During a recent Parliament session, someone asked about Khan’s comments. A Tory peer, Lord Dobbs, questioned the government’s strategy, pointing out the mixed messages. He thinks it’s time for some clear thinking.
In response, Lord Leong, a government whip, said he disagrees with Khan. He emphasized that Trump won the election and they need to work with him. He also suggested that Khan should take a break from the criticism.
After all this, Khan seemed to soften his stance a bit. He mentioned wanting to work closely with Trump, even though their past interactions have been a bit rocky. He’s just hoping Trump will be different this time around.
