Residents of Shepley and Shelley unite to clean and enhance a key footpath
Kirklees: Recently, two villages in Kirklees decided to join forces and tidy up an important footpath. It’s a lovely spot that connects Shepley and Shelley, and it’s used by walkers, cyclists, and horse riders alike.
On a chilly Saturday morning, folks from both villages grabbed their wheelbarrows and shovels to give Stretchgate a good clean. They filled up bags with all sorts of rubbish, like leaf mulch, brambles, and weeds, leaving the path looking great.
Councillor John Taylor, who organized the event, was thrilled with the turnout. He mentioned that he had worked hard to get the path resurfaced and lit up a few years back, but sadly, the maintenance hasn’t been up to par since then.
He expressed his gratitude for the over 30 volunteers who showed up to help out. It was a fantastic example of community spirit, with everyone pitching in to take care of a shared resource.
John hopes to organize more clean-up events this year as part of his New Year’s resolutions. It’s all about keeping Kirklees clean and beautiful for everyone!
