Kirklees Council has announced a plan to address grey bin collection delays due to severe weather conditions
Kirklees: The council is stepping up to tackle a backlog of grey bin collections caused by heavy snow and ice. They’ve got a recovery plan in place to help everyone out.
Starting Monday, January 13, every household will have their grey bin emptied, even if it’s not their usual collection day. Just make sure to put your bin out as you normally would.
Now, if you were expecting a green bin collection next week, that’s not happening. They’re focusing on the grey bins instead. Plus, you can leave out two extra bags of general waste alongside your bin.
Councillor Munir Ahmed, the Cabinet Member for Environment and Highways, mentioned that the crews have been working hard despite the tough conditions. They’ve collected thousands of bins, but safety has been a concern.
He emphasized that it’s crucial to prioritize grey bin collections since the rubbish needs to be dealt with quickly. So, don’t forget to leave your grey bin out next week, even if you’re due for a green bin collection.
They’re also planning to send out reminders and post updates to keep everyone informed about the recovery plan. The weather isn’t looking great, so they believe this approach is the best way to manage the situation.
For those with extra waste, just place two bags next to your grey bin. But remember, don’t put your green bin out next week. They’ll resume the normal collection schedule starting January 20.
Lastly, a big thank you to everyone in Kirklees who has helped out during this tough time, whether it’s clearing snow or checking on neighbors. It’s all about looking out for each other!
