King Charles has urged Prince Andrew to leave Royal Lodge for Frogmore Cottage amid ongoing tensions.
Windsor: King Charles is sending a clear message to his brother, Prince Andrew. They disagree about the future of Royal Lodge, a large mansion on the Windsor Estate.
Charles wants Andrew to move to Frogmore Cottage, a smaller home. Frogmore was previously occupied by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Andrew signed a long lease for Royal Lodge in 2003. He must pay for its upkeep, which adds pressure on him financially.
In 2019, Andrew stepped down as a working royal due to controversies. Last year, reports said Charles cut his annual stipend and security budget.
This raised concerns about how Andrew would afford Royal Lodge. However, he found private funding to stay there.
Andrew prefers to remain at Royal Lodge. Moving to Frogmore would save him money, as it’s within the Windsor Castle security area.
Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson noted that Charles’s funding cut sends a strong message. Charles doesn’t want Andrew to appear too comfortable or happy.
It’s unclear why Charles wants Andrew out of Royal Lodge. Some speculate it could be for Camilla or for Prince Edward and Princess Sophie.
Another theory suggests Charles might rent out Royal Lodge for up to £1 million a month. This could benefit the Crown Estate and indirectly help Charles.
