Exciting new projects in Greater Manchester include student housing and a major wind farm
Salford: Big changes are coming to Greater Manchester! This week, plans for a massive student housing block and a huge wind farm were announced.
In Salford, there’s a proposal for a new building with 400 student homes, complete with a gym and lounge. They want to tear down the old Cumberland House on Lissadel Street to make way for this ten-storey residence.
Meanwhile, over in Rochdale, there’s talk of a landmark 100 MW onshore wind farm. The developers are checking in with the council to get their thoughts on the environmental impact before moving forward.
And that’s not all! There’s a lot happening across the boroughs. For instance, Bolton recently rejected plans to replace a golf driving range with bungalows, saying it would harm the green belt.
Bury is also getting in on the action with a new Metrolink stop entrance planned at Festival Gardens, which will improve access for pedestrians and cyclists.
In Manchester, a new church is set to rise in Blackley, replacing a former convent. The Winners Chapel will accommodate 1,500 people and promises to be a modern place of worship.
Rochdale is buzzing about the Scout Moor II wind farm, which could become England’s largest onshore wind farm. The developers are seeking feedback from the council before they apply for full planning permission.
Heywood is also in the mix, with plans to transform Peine Square into a vibrant public space for events and relaxation, complete with green areas and seating.
Salford is pushing forward with its student housing plans, aiming to create a lively community close to the university. They’re also releasing some green belt land for high-end homes.
In Denton, there’s a proposal for a new apartment block on an old industrial site, while Wigan is looking at a new 50ft telecoms mast in Leigh.
