Newcastle: A drink-driver had a rough night when he crashed into a taxi. Mark Wright was driving his Renault Clio when the accident happened on Central Motorway.

Witnesses in the taxi noticed Wright’s car was moving really slowly before the crash. It was late one evening last month, and things took a turn for the worse.

When the police showed up, they found Wright with blood on his head. He was staggering and slurring his words, making it clear he was in no shape to drive. His breath test showed he was over the legal limit.

Wright, from Kenton, has a history of drink-driving and has now been banned from driving for 16 months. He pleaded guilty in court, and the prosecutor shared that a witness saw his car moving slowly before the crash.

After the crash, the witness and her partner stayed in the taxi while Wright was all over the place, getting in and out of his car. He was unsteady and had blood on his head.

The police took him to the hospital, and he later failed the breath test. His lawyer claimed he was staggering due to his head injury, not because he was drunk. In addition to the ban, Wright was fined and has to pay costs.
