Kent is experiencing significant travel disruptions due to heavy rain, with flooded roads and delayed trains affecting commuters this morning
Kent: This morning, commuters are really feeling the pinch. Heavy rain has hit the county hard, causing all sorts of travel chaos. After a chilly weekend with some snow, the Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain.
The warning was lifted at 9 am, but it’s still causing a mess. Roads are flooded, with some areas getting drenched with rain at 30mm per hour. It’s a tough start to the week for many.
Some of the worst-hit roads include the B2024 Croydon Road in Westerham and the B2027 Clinton Lane in Bough Beech. Plus, Green Lane in Tonbridge is also underwater. On top of that, Southeastern trains are facing delays due to debris on the tracks.
Early this morning, a train hit something on the tracks at Newington, which led to delays and cancellations in the Swale and Medway areas. The good news is that the platform at Newington is back in action, and trains can stop there again.
But it’s not just Newington. A tree has fallen on the tracks near Sturry, blocking services from Ramsgate to London via Canterbury West. And there’s another tree causing issues between Ashford and Wye. It’s a bit of a mess out there!
