Keir Starmer believes Donald Trump will honor his word on trade tariffs
London: Keir Starmer trusts Donald Trump to keep his word on tariffs. Downing Street confirmed this after Trump hinted at a possible deal to avoid tariffs on the UK.
Trump mentioned he might expand tariffs to the UK and EU. However, he believes a deal can be reached with Britain. He stated, “UK is out of line but I’m sure that one can be worked out.”
Trump also shared that his talks with Starmer have been positive. He said, “We’ve had a couple of meetings and numerous phone calls. We’re getting along very well.”
A spokesman for the Prime Minister confirmed Starmer’s trust in Trump. He noted that the Prime Minister looks forward to strengthening trade and security ties with the US.
UK ministers believe the country could avoid US tariffs. They argue that America does not have a trade deficit with the UK. Downing Street emphasized the US as an “indispensable ally.”
The spokesman highlighted the strong trading relationship, worth around £300 billion. He mentioned that both countries are each other’s largest investors, with £1.2 trillion invested in each other’s economies.
Trump stated that tariffs will “definitely” be imposed on EU goods. He criticized the trade deficit with the EU, calling it “an atrocity.”
