London: The wife of famous DJ Johnnie Walker has shared a heartfelt tribute to him. He passed away at 79, and his friend Bob Harris announced the sad news on Radio 2 during New Year’s Eve.

Tiggy Walker, who is a writer and radio presenter, took to X to express her feelings. She wrote about how she spent New Year’s Eve listening to BBC Radio 2, raising a glass to her amazing husband. She described him as courageous, wise, strong, and creative, saying he was never dull. She asked everyone to toast to him.

Johnnie was a radio legend, known for his shows like Sounds of the 70s and the Radio 2 Rock Show. He started his career as a pirate DJ in the 60s and made quite a name for himself. He even had a bit of a clash with Radio 1 bosses over his music choices.

After some time in America, he returned to Radio 1 in 1987 and later joined Radio 2, where he became a beloved voice during drivetime. He bravely announced his cancer diagnosis in 2003 and continued to broadcast from home despite his health struggles.

In her tribute, Tiggy expressed immense pride in Johnnie for how he handled his illness with dignity. She reflected on their journey together and noted how fitting it was for him to pass on New Year’s Eve, suggesting he was celebrating with great musicians in heaven.
