A Jet2 flight made an emergency landing at Manchester Airport due to a minor technical issue, prompting a swift response from fire crews
Manchester: This afternoon, a Jet2 plane had to make an emergency landing at Manchester Airport. Fire crews were on standby as the aircraft touched down.
The flight was headed to Fuerteventura from Newcastle but had to divert because of a minor technical issue. It was supposed to land in the Canary Islands around 2:10 PM, but heavy snow delayed its departure from Newcastle.
Both Newcastle and Manchester Airports faced delays due to the wintry weather, with snow needing to be cleared from the runways. Bristol Airport also had a brief suspension of operations last night because of the snow.
After taking off from Newcastle, the flight ran into trouble and landed safely in Manchester. Firefighters quickly arrived, which is standard procedure for these situations. Thankfully, all passengers and crew were reported safe and were moved to another plane to continue their journey.
Photos shared with the Manchester Evening News showed a fire engine approaching the Jet2 aircraft after it landed. Although snow was still visible on the ground, operations at Manchester Airport had resumed by then. Last year, it was the third busiest airport in the UK.
Flight tracking data revealed the plane circled over parts of Yorkshire, Greater Manchester, and Cheshire before landing. Jet2 has been contacted for more information about the incident.
