A man was threatened with violence by a jealous boyfriend over suspicions of an affair
Stoke-on-Trent: So, there was this guy, Mazafer Maroof, who got super jealous and threatened another man. He thought his girlfriend might be cheating with the guy next door.
At first, Maroof was friendly with the victim, but things took a turn when he started to suspect something was up. He even told the guy he was a “dead man” during some pretty intense harassment.
In court, they heard that the police had to step in twice because of Maroof’s threats. He ended up getting a seven-week prison sentence, but it’s suspended for a year, plus he has to do some rehab activities.
The prosecutor mentioned that the victim lived right next to Maroof’s girlfriend. They had even exchanged numbers at one point since they were on good terms. But then, Maroof started asking the victim if anything was going on with his missus, showing just how insecure he felt.
On July 24, 2023, Maroof knocked on the victim’s door early in the morning. When the guy opened up, he saw Maroof leaning on his car, and things got heated. Maroof lunged at him, threatening to cut his throat, which made the victim lock the door quickly.
After that, the victim called the police, but they didn’t find any weapons on Maroof when they arrived. Later, Maroof sent a message telling the victim to stay away from his girlfriend.
The next day, the victim spotted Maroof again, and they had another argument. Maroof was seen clenching his fist and challenging the guy, but the victim stayed inside and called the cops again, leading to Maroof’s arrest.
The whole ordeal really shook the victim up, and he’s now thinking about moving away. Maroof’s lawyer mentioned that he had been dealing with family issues and turned to drugs, but he’s sorry for what he did.
The judge put a restraining order on Maroof, so he can’t contact the victim or go near his street for five years. The judge noted that Maroof’s behavior was totally out of character, but there’s really no excuse for what he did.
