Newport: So, Darren Rice and Julie Elizabeth spent their Sunday picking up litter. That’s pretty commendable, right? But then you have Dimitri Batrouni, the leader of Newport City Council, joining in. It makes you wonder if he has too much free time on his hands.

People are asking why he’s not using his position to push the police and courts to deal with the litterbugs ruining our streets. I mean, if he’s out there picking up trash, what’s he really doing about the bigger issue?

And let’s talk about that supermarket trolley Darren pulled out of the canal. If you see someone pushing a trolley away from the store, you’ve got to think they’re up to no good, right? It’s definitely not theirs.

While it’s great that Darren and Julie are doing their part, it’s a bit concerning that the council seems to rely on volunteers to clean up the mess. Shouldn’t the council be taking more responsibility?

Just a thought from A. Greenhalgh in Newport.
