Liverpool: A landlord in Liverpool has been hit with a massive fine after tenants were found living in what a judge called a ‘house of horrors.’ The property on Goodison Road was inspected by the council’s housing team, and the conditions were shocking.

The place was described as a ‘slum’ with serious issues like damp, mold, and even a collapsing ceiling. It was so bad that the judge had no choice but to impose a fine of over £13,000. The landlord, Roach Estates and Property Management Ltd, didn’t fix the problems after being warned, which only made things worse.

Liverpool’s council member for housing, Cllr Sam East, expressed relief that the landlord was penalized for their negligence. He emphasized that this kind of behavior won’t be tolerated and encouraged anyone facing issues in rented properties to reach out for help.

In 2024 alone, the council took action against 33 landlords, racking up fines totaling over £340,000. It’s clear they’re serious about improving living conditions for tenants in the city.
