Gwent: Today, we’re in for some serious winter weather. The Met Office is predicting snow, sleet, and temperatures dropping below freezing.
Snow is expected to start this afternoon, especially in Newport and the Gwent Valleys. It’s going to be chilly, with overnight lows hitting around -6°, making it the coldest day of the year.
From about 3 PM, you can expect sleet, snow, and even some hail to come pouring down. Here’s a quick look at the forecast for some key areas:
Newport will see temperatures around 3° at 3 PM, feeling like -1°. Sleet will cover about 60% of the area. By 5 PM, it’ll drop to 2°, with sleet covering 80%.
In Ebbw Vale, expect 1° at 4 PM, with 60% of the area getting snow. By 5 PM, it’ll be 0°, and 70% will still be under snowfall.
Over in Caerphilly, it’ll be around 2° at 3 PM, with sleet covering 70%. By 5 PM, it’ll drop to 1°, and 90% will be sleet-covered.
Blaenavon will be chilly too, starting at 1° at 4 PM, with 70% of the area getting snow. By 6 PM, it’ll be 0°, feeling like -4°.
Lastly, in Monmouth, expect 2° at 5 PM, with 50% of the area getting sleet. It’ll stay around 2° for a while, but cloudy skies will take over later.
