A man in Cornwall faces consequences after strangling his wife during a dispute over a record player, highlighting ongoing anger issues.
Cornwall: So, there’s this pretty shocking story about a guy named Neil Palmer. He’s been married to his wife for over 50 years, but things took a dark turn recently. It all started when he had some trouble with his record player. Instead of just asking for help, he flipped out on her.
During a hearing at Truro Crown Court, it came out that when his wife tried to lend a hand, he got really angry. They ended up outside, away from their son, who has learning difficulties. That’s when things escalated. He grabbed her scarf, twisted it around her neck, and pushed her down.
A neighbor heard the commotion and rushed over to help. The police were called, and they arrested Palmer. In his interviews, he admitted to what he did but tried to downplay it, saying he just fell on her. But he also confessed to twisting her scarf and putting his hands on her neck.
He eventually pleaded guilty to assault and strangulation. His wife, who’s now looking to divorce him, said he’s had anger issues for years. She described his outburst as completely over the top and said she didn’t want him to go to prison. Instead, she hoped he’d get help.
They’re in the process of selling their home in Swanpool, Falmouth. Palmer, who has no prior convictions but had a caution for assaulting her before, got a 12-month suspended sentence. The judge pointed out his anger management problems and how dangerous his actions were.
Along with the suspended sentence, he’s required to complete 40 days of rehabilitation to tackle his anger issues. It’s a tough situation, and it’s sad to see how things turned out after so many years together.
