Hanley: So, get this. A guy named Bilal Ahmed thought he could pull off a drug deal at the Hilton hotel. He booked a room and stashed a bag with 118 deals of cocaine in the safe.

But here’s where it gets wild. He was supposed to meet a woman, but she ghosted him. So, he just went home to Tunstall and crashed. Talk about a snooze!

The next day, hotel staff opened the safe for another guest and found the stash. They called the cops, and when Ahmed returned, he learned his drugs were in police hands. Oops!

He eventually turned himself in and got hit with an 18-month community order at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court. Not exactly the getaway he had in mind.

The prosecutor laid it all out. Ahmed had checked in on December 16, 2022, with that hefty bag of drugs. When the manager found it, he didn’t hesitate to call the police.

Ahmed claimed he was just a courier, paid £60 to deliver the stuff. His lawyer argued it was a one-time mistake, and he’s been a good guy otherwise.

The judge was pretty lenient, recognizing it was a slip-up. He ordered Ahmed to do 30 days of rehab activities and 150 hours of unpaid work. Guess he’ll be busy for a while!

In the end, the judge made sure the drugs were destroyed. Lesson learned, right? Always double-check your safe before you leave!
