Huddersfield: Residents are really fed up with the mess on Kilner Bank. They say fly-tipping is out of control, and it feels like no one is doing anything about it.

This narrow road behind the John Smith’s Stadium has become a dumping ground. People are tossing everything from old sofas to mattresses, and it’s just getting worse. Recently, someone even dumped a caravan, which ended up being set on fire!

Locals are not just angry at the dumpers but also at Kirklees Council. They feel like their complaints are falling on deaf ears. Kate, a nearby resident, mentioned that they’ve been reaching out to the council for years, but the problem keeps escalating.

She said, “It’s not just small bits of rubbish; it’s full car loads! Even a caravan was dumped and then set ablaze. It’s ridiculous!” Taxpayers are footing the bill for constant clean-ups, and it’s frustrating.

Kate pointed out that the tipping has gotten so bad because there are no real consequences for the offenders. They’ve even given the council details like van registrations, but nothing seems to happen.

She added, “The lane is narrow, and there’s dumping everywhere. Before Christmas, every layby was filled with rubbish. Plus, the area is overgrown and hasn’t been swept, which probably encourages this behavior.”

Local councillor Munir Ahmed acknowledged the issue. He said the council has a “Zero Tolerance Policy” on fly-tipping and tries to clear it up quickly. But despite their efforts, illegal dumping keeps happening.

He mentioned that they’ve prosecuted offenders when they have enough evidence. However, there are more people on social media offering waste clearance services, only to dump it illegally later. He urged residents to be cautious of these services.

A spokesperson for Kirklees Council reassured residents that they take fly-tipping seriously and investigate every report. They encourage everyone to keep reporting these issues through the council’s website.
