A Huddersfield pensioner is frustrated after her bins went unemptied for nearly 50 days, despite multiple complaints to the council.
Huddersfield: A pensioner is upset about her unemptied bins. Pamela, 71, has been trying to get her bins emptied for weeks. She called and emailed Kirklees Council many times.
She even asked the binmen directly but got no help. Her bins on Dewhurst Road were not emptied from December 10 to January 27, almost 50 days. This situation has left her feeling stressed.
Pamela is registered for the council’s assisted bin collection service. She said the missed collections made her angry. “I was quite irate – all I wanted was my bins emptied,” she explained.
She spoke to the binmen outside her home but couldn’t convince them to take her bins. They told her, “it’s not our round.” This made her even more stressed.
She has lived in her home for 33 years and feels the service has declined. “They just don’t care,” she said. She has been calling since December 9 and feels the binmen have an easy job.
Many locals are upset about the changes to bin collection points. Previously, bins were collected from narrow back lanes. Now, residents must put them outside their front doors.
Kirklees Council has apologized to Pamela. Councillor Munir Ahmed explained that an error in their system caused the missed collections. They have now corrected the issue and removed the waste.
