Huddersfield: Exciting news is brewing! There’s a plan in the works that could create 300 new jobs in the area. Syngenta, a chemicals manufacturer, is looking to set up a sustainable manufacturing campus by freeing up 20 acres of land from its Leeds Road site.

This move is part of Syngenta’s goal to cut down on its carbon footprint while also bringing in some serious investment and job opportunities for the town. The new campus could attract various businesses focused on advanced manufacturing and life sciences, all while using Syngenta’s existing facilities.

Imagine the local economy getting a boost of around £45 million! That’s a big deal for Huddersfield. Syngenta is keen to draw in investors who can make the most of its specialized wastewater treatment and energy systems, helping to shift towards greener industries.

Anssar Khan, who heads up strategic projects at Syngenta, mentioned that the location is perfect for businesses looking to grow in Kirklees. With flat land and good access, it’s close to the proposed West Yorkshire Life Sciences Investment Zone, which is all about life sciences and healthcare research.

Plus, the University of Huddersfield and local colleges are just around the corner, meaning a steady stream of educated workers is on the horizon. And with the ongoing Transpennine Route Upgrade, getting to and from the area will be even easier.

New businesses would join the likes of Syngenta, Lubrizol, and others already thriving there. They all benefit from the existing infrastructure, which includes utilities like electricity and wastewater treatment, making it easier and cheaper to operate sustainably.

According to research commissioned by Syngenta, if the 20 acres are fully utilized, it could add another £45 million to the local economy. That’s on top of the £140 million the site already contributes, supporting about 1,000 jobs.

Khan also mentioned that they’re open to leasing the land to companies interested in setting up shop in Huddersfield. They’re looking to collaborate with partners to transition to greener technologies, which could have a huge impact on the area.

As industries worldwide shift from fossil fuels to greener energy, Syngenta aims to lead this change in Kirklees. They want to ensure Huddersfield remains a hub for manufacturing and skilled jobs for years to come.

Ultimately, the goal is to create a manufacturing campus that shares resources, making processes more cost-efficient and sustainable. They want Huddersfield to shine as a leader in global manufacturing excellence.
