Bus strikes in Huddersfield are off after drivers accepted a better pay deal, allowing them to vote on the new offer.
Huddersfield: Bus strikes planned for February and March are now off. Drivers received a better pay offer, so they won’t strike.
About 170 bus drivers were set to strike from February 4 to March 9. They were unhappy with a pay deal that would raise their pay to £15.43 an hour starting in April 2025.
The Unite union pointed out that other drivers in West Yorkshire already earn more than £15 an hour. They also noted that other bus companies in Huddersfield pay better wages.
The rejected deal would have tied drivers to a pay agreement from April 2024 to 2026. The union felt this would leave them behind their colleagues. First defended its offer and urged drivers to accept it.
Now, the strikes are suspended. Unite announced a new and improved pay offer for the drivers to consider. They will vote on this offer soon.
Unite regional officer Darren Rushworth said the strikes were suspended to allow members to vote on the new offer from First West Yorkshire.
