A housekeeper at Tan Hill Inn missed her grandchild’s birth due to being snowed in with guests since January 5
North Yorkshire: A woman named Babs, who works as a housekeeper at the Tan Hill Inn, just missed the birth of her grandchild because she’s been snowed in. The pub, known as Britain’s highest, has been stuck under heavy snow since January 5, making it impossible for anyone to leave.
While some folks outside joked about the 23 guests having a cozy time playing games and enjoying drinks, Babs was dealing with a big family moment. The pub shared on social media that she found out she had a new granddaughter, baby Amelia, who weighed in at 6lb 9oz.
It’s been a tough week for the staff too. Barmaid Kelly missed her daughter’s 18th birthday just days before. But the good news didn’t stop there. Aldi stepped in to help the stranded group by sending a local farmer with supplies, including sausages and wine, to keep spirits high.
They even joked about running low on Malbec and breakfast items. The farmer, Harry, made quite the trek to deliver the goods, and the pub manager was thrilled. She said everyone needed a good pork sausage to lift their mood.
As of now, about ten people, including two German guests, are still at the pub, keeping busy with a Yorkshire Dales-themed Monopoly game. The Tan Hill Inn has a history of being cut off by snow, so this isn’t the first time they’ve had to make do with what they have.
