Ashley Hutchison, the attacker, admitted to wounding her with intent. He was caught on CCTV smashing car windows with a machete before grabbing the gardening tool. The sound of the tool hitting her skull was horrifying, and Hutchison panicked, calling for help.
After the attack, the woman was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery that lasted eight hours. She spent two months recovering, and her life has changed dramatically since that night. In her victim impact statement, she shared how the attack has caused her daily anxiety and severe headaches.
She also mentioned how her dreams of becoming a process operator have been shattered. Her children are deeply affected too; her younger son fears being with her, worried she might have a seizure. The trauma has taken a toll on the whole family.
