An Edinburgh man faces justice after shocking footage shows him running over his wife twice in a brutal attack
Edinburgh: A shocking incident unfolded when a husband tried to run over his wife with his car. CCTV footage captured the whole horrifying scene.
William Budge, 62, admitted to this brutal act against his wife, Sandra, 63, last April. The video shows him driving a silver car straight into her on Muirhouse Parkway.
In the footage, Sandra is seen standing next to a family member when Budge strikes her. She clings to the car’s bonnet as she’s dragged along the pavement.
Then, in a chilling moment, she gets pulled under the car and is run over again. A family member rushes to help her as she lies on the grass, seemingly lifeless.
After hitting her, Budge drives off, only to circle back and hit her a second time at speed. The screams of women and children fill the air as Sandra lies motionless.
In court, Budge pleaded guilty to assaulting Sandra, causing her severe injuries and attempting to murder her. This was a serious crime, and the judge made that clear.
He also admitted to previous assaults, including choking her and a pattern of abusive behavior over the years. It’s a tragic situation for both of them.
On the day of the attack, Sandra had just parked her car near her flat. Budge pulled up behind her and tried to talk to her, but things escalated quickly.
When she got out, he grabbed her and tried to force her into his car. A relative intervened, but Budge was furious, claiming she was embarrassing him.
Then, without warning, he got back in his car and drove straight at her. Sandra was taken to the hospital, where doctors found serious injuries, including damage to her lungs and liver.
She remained in the hospital for months before being moved for rehabilitation. The judge noted the severity of Budge’s actions, and sentencing is still pending.
