Peanut, a severely emaciated lurcher, was discovered abandoned on a country lane
Biggleswade: You won’t believe what happened to this poor dog named Peanut. The RSPCA is looking after her, and honestly, it’s heartbreaking. She’s the thinnest dog they’ve ever seen, and it’s just awful.
Peanut, a three-year-old lurcher, was found all alone on a country lane. People passing by were so concerned that they rushed her to an emergency vet. Can you imagine? She was in such bad shape that you could see every single bone in her body.
When the RSPCA took over, they were shocked. They’ve been dealing with a record number of abandoned pets lately, especially after the holidays. It seems like more and more animals are being left behind, and it’s really sad.
Peanut had some nasty pressure sores on her legs, which showed she’d been lying on hard surfaces for too long. At first, she was so weak she could barely stand. But guess what? She’s starting to show some improvement! She even managed to run a little to get her breakfast.
David Allen, the RSPCA officer, couldn’t believe how bad Peanut looked. He said it was appalling and shocking. She was microchipped, but the last owner sold her when she was just a puppy. Now, they’re trying to find out who that owner is and if anyone saw anything suspicious on New Year’s Day.
It’s just heartbreaking to think about how many pets were abandoned right after Christmas. On December 27 alone, 84 pets were left at RSPCA centers across the country. They’re worried that the trend of people getting pets during the pandemic and then abandoning them will continue.
Tiffany Saunders from the RSPCA Block Fen Centre said it was tough to see Peanut in such a state. But the good news is she’s getting better every day. It’s so nice to see her wagging her tail again. They’re working hard to help her gain weight and get back to health.
