Plans to build homes on a slaughterhouse site in Coalville were rejected due to safety and sustainability concerns raised by local officials and residents
Coalville: So, there was this plan to build homes on a slaughterhouse site, right? Well, it got shot down by the council. They thought the idea was just not good enough.
The developers wanted to put up nine homes at the Flanders Fallen Stock slaughterhouse, but the council wasn’t having it. They called the proposal “unacceptable.”
Local folks, including the Coleorton Parish Council, were really against it. They felt it would overcrowd the area and were worried about safety on the busy A511 road.
One councillor, John Geary, pointed out that the area doesn’t have great public transport. He’s been living there for nearly 40 years and sees how fast cars zoom by every day.
There was also a recent tragic accident on that road, which made everyone even more anxious about adding more homes. The council had already turned down a plan for a chemicals factory there, citing similar concerns.
Despite the developers claiming their plan was “sustainable,” the council disagreed. They felt the homes would just make things worse for the small village vibe of Sinope.
In the end, the council said the proposal was just not going to work. They were clear that no amount of negotiation would change their minds. It’s a tough break for the developers, but safety and community well-being come first.
