Police in Staffordshire warn homeowners about a tree surgery scam that could lead to hefty expenses
Staffordshire: So, there’s this scam going around that’s really got people worried. Some guys are knocking on doors, offering to cut down trees for just £500. Sounds like a deal, right? But hold on.
Once they finish the job, they hit homeowners with a huge bill, claiming the tree has honey fungus and needs urgent treatment. Some folks have been asked for thousands! Can you believe that?
These guys are pretending to work for a company called Oak Leaf Tree and Fencing Ltd, but it’s all a scam. They’ve been spotted driving a white van with a wood chipper trailer, wearing bright orange vests. Super sketchy!
PCSO Matt Taylor is warning everyone to be careful. He sent out an email saying that these guys have been active since January 3rd, 2025, and they’re targeting unsuspecting residents.
He advises anyone who gets an unexpected knock on the door from tradesmen to be cautious. If you’re not expecting them, don’t feel pressured to agree to anything or share personal info. Just close the door if you’re unsure.
Matt’s been out talking to residents to spread the word and make sure everyone knows what’s going on. He’s urging people to share this info on social media, especially to help out any vulnerable friends or family nearby. Stay safe, everyone!
