A Loughborough family faces devastation as their home floods again just days after completing repairs from last year’s disaster
Loughborough: Can you believe it? Just days after finishing repairs, Jacob Davidge’s home got flooded again. It’s like a bad dream that won’t end. He woke up on January 7 to find water everywhere after heavy rain hit.
This is the second time in a year that Jacob’s home has faced such a disaster. Last January, the floods wrecked the entire downstairs, including a kitchen that had just been renovated. Talk about bad luck!
After finally re-tiling the kitchen floor in December, Jacob thought they were in the clear. But just days later, it was all underwater again. It’s heartbreaking to see all that hard work go to waste.
Jacob, who’s 28 and works in civil engineering, said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he came downstairs. He’s lived there for over 20 years without any flooding issues, and now this happens twice in one year. It’s just crazy!
The water came rushing in from the front and back gardens, just like last time. Within hours, the house was filled with two to three feet of water, causing serious damage. Jacob estimates it could cost tens of thousands to fix everything again.
It’s even worse because they had just finished repairs from the last flood. Jacob shares the home with his wife and in-laws, and they all feel the impact. Everything on the ground floor is affected—kitchen, furniture, you name it. It’s all gone.
Now, they’re back to square one with renovations. Jacob fears it’ll take another year to get everything sorted out. When they woke up the next day, the water had receded, but the mess was everywhere—debris, dirt, and no clean drinking water. Just a total disaster.
Interestingly, their neighbors had only minor issues. One neighbor had a little water in their pantry, but that was it. Jacob thinks their house must be lower, which is why they got hit so hard.
They’ve already filed an insurance claim, but Jacob knows it’s going to be a slow process. He said it could take days just to get things moving. Right now, they feel pretty alone in this situation.
Jacob is frustrated and wonders why more isn’t being done to prevent these floods. He feels it’s bad luck to have it happen once, but twice in a year? That’s just ridiculous. He’s put so much effort into making their home nice, only to see it wrecked again.
For now, the family is focused on cleaning up and starting the long recovery process. Jacob said they’re just taking it one step at a time, but it’s tough to see any light at the end of the tunnel when they’re back to square one.
