A Holyhead port worker’s fears about rusted walkways prompt Stena to prioritize safety measures
Holyhead: A worker at Holyhead port is pretty worried about the state of the walkways. They’re rusted and not looking safe at all. Stena Line, the company that runs the port, says safety is their top priority.
Ferry services have been on hold since early December due to damage from Storm Darragh. A couple of incidents with an Irish Ferries vessel caused some serious issues, including a walkway collapsing into the sea.
Now, there’s a new task force set up to figure out a better plan for the port’s future. But the worker isn’t convinced. They’ve shared photos showing just how bad the walkways are.
Stena claims they’ve already replaced two walkways and have plans to replace the rest by summer 2026. They say the current walkways meet safety standards, but the worker feels that’s not enough.
They mentioned that the walkways are used a lot by the staff and that concerns have been raised before, but nothing has changed. It’s frustrating for them, especially since they believe more walkways need urgent replacement.
Stena reassured everyone that they’re working on it, but the worker thinks the company is just trying to make it seem like they’re doing a favor by replacing them. It’s a tough situation for everyone involved.
