A visit to The Archive Cafe in Holmfirth reveals a charming spot focused on good food and happy customers, radiating a warm, friendly atmosphere.
The cafe was busy around lunchtime on that Tuesday. I saw a side room that had a “Manager” door. The cafe used to be a Barclays bank, so I sat on a small pew and looked at the menu.
I chose the Ceylon Sunrise, which cost £9.70. I asked Rochelle for a spicy suggestion, and she gladly helped. It had scrambled eggs, onions, tomatoes, and spices, and also included sourdough toast. “Serengeti Beans” came in a small pot alongside it.
I also ordered two cakes and a cappuccino to go. Rochelle added extra spices to my Ceylon Sunrise because I said I liked spicy food, and it had a nice kick. She seemed impressed by my spice tolerance.
I moved to a bigger table before eating, as the little pew was too small. The service felt very friendly, and I sensed the owners’ warmth. Rochelle and Yasi have lived in the UK for over twenty years after coming from Sri Lanka. They care about their food and customers, chatting and joking with everyone. The cafe had families and friends creating a nice atmosphere.
This cafe is a great addition to Holmfirth’s food scene. The total bill was just over £21, which included coffee and two cakes. The Archive Cafe sits in Victoria Square, Holmfirth’s center, and opens 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday through Saturday and closes on Sundays. They also offer upstairs rooms for booking stays.
