A group of friends in Porth celebrated Christmas with a fun fancy dress pub crawl, this year themed ‘Seagulls Vs Chips’
Porth: A bunch of friends from Rhondda took to the streets dressed as seagulls last Saturday. They were celebrating 20 years of a fun tradition they started as kids. Every Christmas, Matthew Jones and his pals get together for a fancy dress pub crawl.
Back in the day, they were all single and child-free, just looking to have a good time on Christmas Eve. It started small, but more people joined in over the years. Now, they have around 30 folks participating in the crawl.
Matthew mentioned that the locals love it. Everyone smiles and laughs when they see them. They even sing Christmas carols on the bus to Pontypridd, getting everyone involved. It’s always a positive vibe.
To celebrate their 20th anniversary, they held an ‘Oscars-style’ award ceremony, giving out fun titles like best and worst costume. The community looks forward to this event every year, with people messaging them about the theme in advance.
Started in 2004, Matthew believes this tradition will continue for generations. Some of them have kids who might join in soon. He can’t see it stopping anytime soon, as it’s their annual chance to have fun together.
