Scotland faces severe weather with school closures and travel disruptions as snow and ice impact the Highlands
Inverness: Scotland is really feeling the effects of this wild weather. Schools are closed, trains are delayed, and flights are getting canceled left and right.
The Met Office has put out a yellow weather warning for snow and ice, especially for folks in the north. They’re saying we could see up to 10cm of snow, and it might even hit 15cm in some spots.
The Highlands seem to be taking the brunt of it. Loch Glasgarnoch recorded a bone-chilling minus 13.3C, the coldest night of the winter so far.
Looking ahead, the forecast isn’t looking too bright. The Met Office warns that Thursday and Friday will keep the chill going, with more snow and ice likely.
Chris Almond, the Deputy Chief Forecaster, mentioned that Thursday night could be even colder, possibly the coldest yet this winter.
There’s still a yellow warning for snow and ice in place until Wednesday noon. They’re advising everyone to be careful with all the sleet, hail, and snow showers that could disrupt travel.
Schools in the Highlands have had to shut down due to the heavy snow and ice. While some schools have reopened, many are still closed, making it tough for students and parents.
So, if you’re wondering which schools are closed in the Highlands today, here’s the full list for January 8.
Stay safe out there, and keep warm!
