The Help to Buy scheme in Wales will now run until September 2026, providing crucial support for homebuyers and the housing market.
Newport West: The Help to Buy Wales scheme is sticking around a bit longer. It’s now set to run until September 2026, which is great news for many folks looking to buy a home.
This extension was announced by Jayne Bryant, the local MS, on December 16, 2024. Originally, the scheme was supposed to wrap up in March 2025, but now it’ll keep going for another 18 months.
Since it started back in January 2014, Help to Buy Wales has helped over 14,000 households get into their own homes. It’s been a real lifesaver for people who might struggle to afford a place otherwise.
Ms. Bryant emphasized how important this scheme is for the Welsh housing strategy. She pointed out that while the UK Government ended Help to Buy in England in 2023, Wales is still committed to supporting homebuyers.
Plus, this extension gives a bit of stability to the 50 developers and small businesses involved in the scheme. They can keep working with confidence, knowing the program is still active.
Ms. Bryant also mentioned that they’ll keep collaborating with partners like UK Finance and the Development Bank of Wales to ensure the scheme meets everyone’s needs.
