Gwent: So, Gwent really got hit hard with snow! An amber weather warning was issued, and it turned out to be spot on. People woke up to a winter wonderland, but it wasn’t all fun and games.

The Met Office had been warning us about the snow since Saturday evening. They even bumped the warning up to amber earlier in the week. It was serious business!

The warning lasted from 6 PM Saturday to noon Sunday. Some folks found their streets covered in snow, while others had to deal with icy, slushy roads. And just to add to the chaos, there was a yellow rain warning in effect too.

Gritters were out all night trying to clear the main roads. By 9 AM Sunday, many were passable, but Traffic Wales South still said to be careful. Some routes were still pretty dodgy, so they advised only driving if you had to.

Public transport took a hit as well. Buses from Stagecoach and Newport Bus had to delay or cancel services because of the snow turning into slush. It was a bit of a mess!

Driving in rural areas was tricky too. Some cars were slipping around, and others just couldn’t make it at all. It was a real struggle for many.

Even sports were affected! There were concerns about pitch safety, and Newport County had to call off their match against Morecambe because the pitch was deemed “unplayable.”

But hey, not everyone was complaining! Lots of people took the chance to enjoy the snow, with kids and pets having a blast out there.
