The community mourns the loss of Gary Fox, a cherished figure known for his warmth and generosity
Normanby: A family is heartbroken after the sudden loss of their beloved “pops,” Gary Fox. He was just 60 years old when he passed away on December 19.
Gary was a true local legend, known for his kindness and generosity. He ran a property maintenance business and was a well-loved figure in the community. His wife Emma, 50, and their daughter Lauren, 30, are devastated by his passing.
Emma shared how they met over 25 years ago at a dance, calling him her “soul mate.” She reminisced about how everyone in Normanby knew him, and they could never go anywhere without someone stopping to chat.
They had so many plans together, including a trip to Switzerland that they were looking forward to. Emma described Gary as the “gin to her tonic,” highlighting their deep bond.
Gary was passionate about DIY and even renovated their homes. He turned that passion into a career, running his own property maintenance company for over a decade.
Emma said he had an incredible work ethic and treated every job like it was for himself. Cooking was his way to unwind, and they did everything together, truly two halves of a whole.
They were supposed to go skiing this month, a tradition they cherished. Emma can’t believe he’s gone, and the whole community is feeling the loss.
In a heartfelt card of condolence, a friend described Gary as a remarkable craftsman and a person of great integrity. His warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him.
Gary’s funeral is set for January 10 at Kirkleatham Crematorium, where friends and family are encouraged to wear a splash of color to celebrate his life.
He will be remembered not just for his skills but for the love he shared with his family and the community.
