GWR has shared important travel advice for the Christmas season, impacting journeys in south Wales and beyond
Great Western Railway (GWR) has some travel advice for folks heading out during Christmas. If you’re in south Wales, listen up!
After Christmas Eve, there won’t be any main line trains going to or from London Paddington until December 30. This is all due to work on the new HS2 station at Old Oak Common and some upgrades on the tracks and signals.
Most long-distance trains will start or end at Reading. From there, you can catch connecting trains to Ealing Broadway, which links to the London Underground for central London.
If you’re coming from south Wales, Devon, or Cornwall, there will be hourly services going to London Euston instead. Just a heads up, these trains won’t stop at Reading.
To keep things comfy and avoid overcrowding, these trains will be reservation only. So, make sure to book your spot ahead of time!
Richard Rowland, GWR’s operations director, mentioned that it’s a tricky operation, but they’re doing their best to get everyone where they need to go this Christmas.
However, be prepared for busy trains and stations during the holiday season. If you can travel earlier or later, it might make your journey a bit easier.
Marcus Jones from Network Rail said that the upgrades are crucial for a reliable and safe railway. He also thanked passengers for their patience and reminded everyone to check their travel plans before heading out.
