Dr. Rowena Christmas expresses joy over her MBE for services to general practice, highlighting the importance of patient care.
Monmouthshire: Dr. Rowena Christmas has been awarded an MBE for her contributions to general practice. She’s been working in Trellech for 25 years and really knows her patients.
She mentioned that the best part of receiving the honor is the recognition of her service. Dr. Christmas is passionate about her work and believes in treating patients closer to home to ease the pressure on the NHS.
As the chair of the Royal College of GPs in Wales, she’s been focused on supporting vulnerable children, especially after the pandemic. Many kids are struggling to return to school, particularly those from less privileged backgrounds.
Dr. Christmas, originally from Llandeilo, studied in London and has always felt a pull back to Wales. She was thrilled to receive the MBE and couldn’t help but share the news with her husband.
Another local, Roger Evans, also received an MBE for his work with the Friends of Friendless Churches. He’s been involved with the charity for decades, helping to preserve historic churches in Wales.
In Monmouthshire, the charity is working on restoring several churches, including one that was on the verge of collapse. It’s a big project, and he’s excited about the progress.
Other honorees from the area include Amy-Claire Elisabeth Mason and Robert Michael Denman, both recognized for their public service. It’s great to see so many people from the community being acknowledged for their hard work!
