Plans for Grimsby town centre include vibrant festoon lights and living walls to enhance the area’s appeal and greenery
Grimsby: Exciting changes are on the way for the town centre! The council is working on plans to make Victoria Street greener and more inviting.
They got a nice boost of £500,000 from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund last May. This cash is all about bringing life and greenery back to the area.
Recently, they’ve already put up some hanging baskets on lamp posts. But that’s just the start! They’re also planning to add living walls, positive message displays, and those cool festoon lights to brighten things up at night.
A spokesperson from the council mentioned that the first phase is already making a difference with the planters and baskets. They’re teaming up with Grimsby in Bloom to keep the plants fresh and vibrant throughout the seasons.
Littlecoates Primary School is even getting involved, designing signs with positive messages for the street. Plus, they’re looking to add living walls to boost biodiversity.
Phase two is in the works, which will include more flower beds and possibly expanding leisure facilities. They’re also excited about the festoon lighting to make the area safer and more welcoming in the evenings.
They need to focus on plant life to use the Government funds, and they’re aiming to finish the first phase by the end of March. There’s even a pocket park planned at West St Mary’s Gate!
They’ve set aside £123,000 for the festoon lighting, and Studiotech is on board to get it done. The plan is to string lights along the pedestrian areas, which will also extend into new public spaces.
This lighting is based on feedback from the community, who believe it’ll really enhance the street scene. Meanwhile, North Lincolnshire Council is also planning its own green initiatives with a similar cash award.
