Firefighters worked through the night to control a large fire at a derelict building in Glastonbury, leading to road closures and ongoing efforts.
Glastonbury: A big fire broke out at an abandoned building, causing quite a scene. Fire crews from all over the area rushed in to handle it.
The A361 was shut down for about six hours while firefighters worked hard to get the flames under control. They came from Glastonbury, Street, Wells, and even Wiveliscombe.
It all started around 1:20 AM, and the road finally reopened by 6:40 AM. But even after that, firefighters were still on the scene making sure everything was safe.
According to the fire service, they got a lot of calls about the fire. When they arrived, the building was already pretty much engulfed in flames, so they called for police to help with the road closure and brought in extra fire engines.
This derelict property was about 5 meters by 12 meters and had two floors. Sadly, the fire caused part of the roof to collapse, and there were solar panels involved too.
Firefighters used several hoses and ladders to tackle the blaze. They made good progress throughout the night, and eventually, they scaled back the operation, leaving just a couple of engines to finish damping down the last of the fire.
Stay tuned for more updates as the situation develops.
