Recent data shows a concerning increase in sex offenders in Glasgow, highlighting specific postcodes with the highest counts
Out of these, 844 are living in the community, while 346 are in custody or hospital. Across Scotland, Police Scotland is keeping tabs on 5,187 sex offenders in the community, with another 2,240 behind bars or in medical facilities.
The area with the highest concentration of offenders is G32 in Barlanark/Cambuslang, which has 63 registered sex offenders. Other notable areas include G20 in North Kelvinside/Maryhill with 46 and G51 in Govan/Ibrox with 42.
Interestingly, only one Glasgow postcode makes the top ten for the highest number of sex offenders in Scotland. Motherwell and Hamilton in Lanarkshire also feature prominently, with Motherwell leading the pack at 92 offenders.
As of the end of last year, 13 sex offenders were considered wanted by Police Scotland, with most believed to have left the UK. The police manage these offenders through a system called Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements (MAPPA), which involves various agencies working together to assess and manage risks.
A police spokesperson emphasized their commitment to public safety, focusing on prevention and early intervention. They highlighted the importance of collaboration among agencies to ensure that all registered sex offenders are monitored effectively.
While the risk can never be completely eliminated, the police are taking all reasonable steps to protect the community. They want to reassure residents that they are actively working to keep everyone safe.
