A court hears a psychologist’s assessment of a man involved in a Glasgow child abuse ring, labeling him as a medium risk.
Glasgow: A leading forensic psychologist has assessed Iain Owens, a man convicted in a child abuse case, as a “medium risk.” This was revealed in court recently.
Owens was found guilty of being part of a paedophile ring that abused three children in a Glasgow drugs den. The trial included shocking allegations, including claims of Satanic rituals.
He faces sentencing for 18 charges, including gang rape and attempted murder, alongside six others. The sentencing has been postponed for a risk assessment.
Interestingly, Owens challenged a report that labeled him as “high risk” and a psychopathic sadist. A different psychologist, Dr. Peter Pratt, disagreed, saying he found Owens to be “medium risk.”
Dr. Pratt met Owens multiple times and expressed concerns about the previous risk assessment. He noted that Owens was eager to engage and didn’t seem manipulative during their meetings.
In his report, Dr. Pratt mentioned that Owens claimed to have had only two sexual relationships and denied using pornography. He also pointed out that Owens had a history of drug abuse, particularly heroin.
Dr. Pratt has extensive experience, having assessed thousands of sex offenders over his career. He believes Owens’ risk of reoffending is manageable and that he should eventually be moved to an open prison.
The court proceedings are ongoing, and the case has been adjourned until Wednesday. It’s a complex situation, and many are watching closely to see how it unfolds.
