A Glasgow carer was dismissed after making offensive remarks about vulnerable clients
Glasgow: A carer named Michelle Brown has been removed from her job. She made some really shocking comments about vulnerable clients. This happened while she worked for The Richmond Fellowship Scotland Ltd.
Brown told a colleague that vulnerable clients should be in a “straitjacket until 9am.” She even suggested they should take drugs to sleep longer. These comments were reported to the Scottish Social Services Council.
On another occasion, she made a rude remark about a client’s football team shirt. She also ignored instructions for a non-verbal client with autism, causing distress. Brown turned off the lights to force the client to sleep, which was not part of the care plan.
She was also caught sleeping while on duty, which is a serious issue. In one instance, she told a client they would be better off “going to sleep and never waking up.” This was said within earshot of the client.
Brown even bragged about being on a weight loss drug to a client who was bedridden. She told the client they couldn’t get the drug because they weren’t exercising. This behavior raised serious concerns about her attitude towards vulnerable people.
The SSSC concluded that her actions were abusive and showed a lack of compassion. They emphasized that social care workers must treat clients with dignity and respect. Due to her repeated misconduct, Brown was removed from the social care register.
