Llangybi: So, planners have given the green light for three glamping pods right next to a country road. They’re going to be these lightweight, bunker-style pods set in a sloping field.

They’ll be located across from a house called Brook Cottage, about a mile southwest of Llangybi. The local community council wasn’t too happy about this. They raised concerns about the impact on local wildlife, especially doormice, and said the spot isn’t great for holidaymakers because of limited access and no electricity.

Two residents also chimed in, worried about the extra traffic on the narrow lane and how it might affect the area’s ecology, plus noise and light pollution. But the planning officer, Kate Young, pointed out that the highways department didn’t have any objections.

They noted that while visibility is limited, the entrance is among similar openings, so some traffic is expected. Plus, they figured the number of vehicles would be pretty low, so they couldn’t object.

Kate’s report mentioned that since the pods will be on slanted ground, they can be set up without flooding risks. They’ll also control lighting, and since the nearest house is 30 meters away, noise shouldn’t be a big issue.

She acknowledged that tourism in the countryside isn’t always sustainable since visitors will need cars, but she believes they’ll stick around and explore the local footpaths, which could help the local economy, including the pub in Llangybi.

As for the power situation, the pods will have solar panels, though they might not cover all the guests’ needs. And the community council’s worries about past unauthorized changes to the land weren’t relevant to this application.
