Steffan Rhodri, known for his role in Gavin & Stacey, has surprising ties to Hollywood and a family connection to another actor.
Swansea: You know Steffan Rhodri, right? He’s the lovable Dave Coaches from Gavin & Stacey. But there’s so much more to him than just that role. This 57-year-old Welsh actor has been making waves since the show kicked off in 2007.
Funny enough, Ruth Jones mentioned that he was only supposed to be in the first episode. But fans loved him so much that they kept bringing him back. Now, he’s a key part of the show. And while we all adore him as the bus driver, he’s also got some serious Hollywood credits to his name.
His first big film was Twin Town back in 1997, which many folks in Wales remember fondly. He played ‘Hunky’, a bouncer at a nightclub who turned away the Lewis Twins. Classic stuff! And he’s been in other films too, like Ali G Indahouse and The Big I Am.
But his biggest role? That’s got to be in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. Can you believe that movie made nearly a billion dollars? He also popped up in Wonder Woman, which did pretty well at the box office too.
On the TV side, Rhodri has been busy for almost 30 years. He started with Pobol y Cwm and has been in shows like Doctors and House of the Dragon. Still, everyone knows him best as Dave Coaches. He even shared that the character is based on his real-life uncle, which is pretty cool!
And get this—another one of his uncles is actor William Thomas, who played Bryn in Twin Town. So, acting runs in the family! Rhodri always wanted to be an actor, and he’s done a lot of theater work too.
When it comes to being recognized as Dave Coaches, he loves it. Sure, it can be a bit much when people are tipsy at a rugby match, but overall, he enjoys the attention. It’s a great way for people to know him, but he’s also keen to show he can do a lot more than just that one role.
